Classical Brass

Came home for the weekend. Yesterday I grabbed a bite to eat with L. G. Then I went home and spent an hour with my dad loading brass and listening to classical music (classical brass is also the name of a band).

Today I went with my folks to Hibbing. We finally went to pizza ranch. The peach pizza was the best! On the way home my mom saw a billboard advertising a Lonestar concert at fortune bay and had me google it on my phone. They still had tickets. After we got home she booked a couple online for my birthday! Yay! Can't wait till the nineteenth!

How did it go again?

I finally caught up on my world history homework but I'm a little behind on my English readings. Today in northern narrative the teacher googled Paul Bunyan on youtube and we watched some old Disney cartoon about him. It was kind of goofy but the song was catchy. Now how did it go again?

Culvers

Today I finally gave into J.'s pleading and let her drag me to culvers for frozen custard and the weirdest hot dog ever (it was cut in half and served on a hoagie bun). The custard was really good though, cherry and chocolate chip. I'm not sure it agreed with my tummy though. I still feel crampy.

My Weekend So Far

Friday I went with J. to the mall. I wound up getting a couple books and the Dresden Files on DVD. I actually got quite lucky because one of the books just happened to be an old copy that still had a 20% off new release sticker on it and J. was nice enough to let me use her ten percent member discount. Sometimes she can be way nice. Saturday we finished watching Fitefly. I looked for Andromeda online. Apparently it's been discontinued but there are still some places you can get it online. That would be a Birthday hint. Today I plan on doing some reading and taking it easy. Only four months to go!

Behind Already

Classes have been pretty boring so far. Unfortunately the professors have already assigned reading responses and I'm falling behind already. Mostly because it's awfully hard to write a response to a book when it hasn't arrived in the mail yet. Hopefully I'll have all my books by next week or I'll really be in trouble. Also, since they've moved to the new student union the grill has quit making those chili cheese dogs I was so fond of. They don't even have soup anymore, or regular hot dogs. What gives?

Back to School

I was sick all day yesterday so I sat on the couch and marathoned all the Indiana Jones movies. They sure helped. I feel fin today. I brought my stuff back to school. J. and I got some lunch at the new student center/union. I know they're trying to "go green" and everything but does the place have to be so poorly lit? Going into the restroom was like walking into a cave. At night. With cloudy skies.

J. and I also got into a disagreement over my leprechaun poem and the fact that it mentioned whiskey. She wanted it to be politically correct and insisted I drop the whole poem from the book. I said that there was nothing wrong with it and that would be silly. She said she wouldn't illustrate it because it would be offensive. Finally I said "why are you worried? If anyone reads it and wants to complain they aren't going to go to you, they're going to come to me, the author, who wrote it." After that she was fine, but seriously, Flynn and Lynn would never fall for a trap baited with flowers (J's suggestion). Never.

Books and Kittens

Yesterday I went with my dad to Duluth to buy books for school. Only two days left till classes start next semester. I had to listen to him whine the whole time about how horrible his life is and how difficult his job is. He did pay for my books so I guess I shouldn't complain too much (not that he didn't complain enough for the both of us already).

Today I went with my mom and maunta to Duluth. I got to see maunta's new kitten before we left. I say her name is Niffty. That's what happens when maunta is indecisive. Other people decide for you.

My maunta had a ton of errands to run that took us up and down all those horrible down town hills. We visited maunta's sister then we stopped at the mall. There was a new store we checked out and maunta got me this cute green dress. We went to the great American grill for super and stopped at wall mart on the way home.

Cute Puppies

Yesterday  I went with my dad to a tree farm near Ely so he could drop off a 50 year tree farm sign to a guy he knew. I went along because he needed someone to take pictures and because there was the possibility of meeting some cute puppies. There was an old yellow lab named Will and a cute little puppy called Sadie.

Today I was bored so after cleaning my thermos cup (my folks keep taking it and putting coffee in it and I still haven't got the smell out) with boiling water and making some soup for lunch I decided to go out. I wound up going to a movie with L.G. Since I had already seen them all I said I would rather see Sherlock Holmes again out of all of them. She kept whining and saying that she didn't want to because she was forced to read the book in high school and it was soo boring. I said she was prejudiced because the mere fact that it was a school assignment automatically caused her to hate it and anything associated with it. I convinced her to see Sherlock Holmes. She admitted that it was o.k. She does this every time I pick a movie. First she whines she doesn't want to see it, then she says it will be horrible, then we see it, she says it was o.k. and a couple weeks later it was totally awesome and she can't wait to get it on dvd.

Meanwhile, we stayed for the credits and I was able to identify the song that plays when Holmes is fighting that guy in the boxing ring. It was Rocky Road to Dublin as performed by the Dubliners. I should have known. I know the version done by the Gaels. I can totally play that tune on my tin whistle, which I did when I got home. Now if only my brother and his friend would turn off the t.v. so I could get some sleep I might be able to get it out of my head.

Book Store Books Cheap?

The past few days I got up early, folded laundry, helped my dad plow the driveway at the shack, and read a book. Today I washed some dishes, cooked dinner (crab fried rice), and shopped for textbooks online. I got some of them from Amazon, one was a penny but was four bucks after shipping. I did some price comparing and found out that some of the books were actually cheaper new at the university bookstore than used on Amazon. I know! It might have something to do with the opening of the new student center and all the grand opening sales. I'll have to see about getting down to pick up my other books before classes start.

January 8th

For lack of a more creative title this post is simply January 8th. My dad yelled at me to get up at nine this morning. Then he slammed my door so lout it scared me half to death. I took the decorations off the Christmas tree. I helped my brother chop and stack some firewood. I cooked a Dave's frozen pizza for lunch. It was pepporoni and I added mushrooms. After that I went into town with my brother. We went to the bookstore in the mall. I got a couple of really cute fairy books for cheap because I had a full stamp card for a discount. I also got some shoes to wear with that skirt I got with my mom. Then we came home and I watched the movie Arthur and the Invisibles on t.v. It was actually pretty good. They weren't exactly fairies but they sure did look like it, minus the wings. I wrote another poem called Soldier Boys. You can read in at White Fox: Silver Crow and on my page at fifteen minutes of fiction.

Now I Worry

My folks just gave me the "in four months you'll be 21 and graduating from college with 400 dollar a month loan payments and you need to find a job so you can pay rent" talk. Way to ruin my vacation. Now I have something to worry about. And on top of that my dad chewed me out for sleeping till noon and my mom wants me to clean the house. What do they think I've been doing with my vacation? Laying on the couch all day watching t.v.? Oh, right, I have. At least I have a resume. That should count for something right?

200 Channels and Nothing to Watch

I've spent the last few days doing nothing. I tried to watch t.v. but wound up falling victim to the curse of the future, that is, 200 channels to choose from and nothing at all to watch. I wound up watching Forever Knight on my computer via hulu. I eventually tracked it down to crackle and started watching it there since it had a better picture quality. For an old nineties Canadian vampire show it was actually pretty good. I think I've become hooked. I also finally figured out how to bookmark things in google chrome. Now I get to re-find all my favorite sites.

New Outfit

I went shopping today with my mom. I got some really cute boots to go with my aussie hat. Those heel boots I wanted are still sold out. I also got this really cute blouse skirt combo that looks really steampunk. Now I just need some shoes to go with it. I'm supposed to go to bed early tonight because I have to get up at six in the morning to go to the cities with my dad. Hopefully I can talk him into stopping at that Tanger outlet mall with the super cool shoe store on the way back. Then I can get a pair of cute shoes/boots to go with my new outfit. Also, be sure to check out my resolution poem at White Fox: Silver Crow and my page at Fifteen Minutes of Fiction.

My Doctor

I watched more of the Doctor Who marathon this morning. Then I got bored after my dad changed the channel so I dug out my cross country skiis and went out to the field, made a loop, and came back. I did a hundred crunches and had a salad with dinner. I finally got to see the new Doctor Who End of Time part two. Even though I knew he was going to die I never thought it would be that way. I'm still mad that the new doctor is so ugly. David Tennant will always be my Doctor.

Happy New Year!

I stayed up last night to watch the ball drop on the news. No one else did. I didn't even have a funny hat. I did have the lyrics to auld Lang Syne. Today I went to town and me and L.G. went to see the new Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 movie. It was cute and there was lots of singing and dancing. After the movie L. made me take her to the hospital to see her friend C. I stood awkwardly in the corner while they talked about ex-boyfriends and doing it and how this other girl they both knew said she did it four times in a night and how they really didn't need to know that. So there was me thinking, "you didn't need to know it, I didn't need to know it. But gee, thanks for sharing anyway! (insert sarcasm here)". After that I dropped L. at her place and made it home in time for dinner. My daddy made spaghetti. Sadly, he used too many onions in the sauce. There was a Doctor Who marathon on the BBC America. I really wish that today was tomorrow because then I could be watching the new Doctor Who End of Time part two that I've been dying to see since last week. Only twenty hours to go.
